PRAXIS Prep - Getting Ready

PLATO Simulated Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST)

What is the PPST?

The PPST is part of the PRAXIS Series known as PRAXIS I or the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST). By its name, we know that it is designed to be taken early on within an education major’s program, possibly upon entrance or within the first two years*. The PPST tests an individual in three basic skill areas: reading, writing, and mathematics. For this reason, you will also see the test referred to as Academic Skills Assessments.

What is a Simulated PPST?

PLATO Learning has made available to students the opportunity to practice and prepare for the official PPST through a replicated assessment and skill-building curriculum. This product was developed in partnership with ETS Technologies in an effort to promote greater confidence and success on the official PPST. The simulated test mirrors the actual test in terms of content, time, and number of questions. An additional feature of the simulated PPST is its courseware alignment with PLATO curriculums in math, reading and writing, allowing students to engage in critical skill building.

What are the benefits of taking the Simulated PPST?

  • Students may build confidence and skills for the actual exam.
  • Students have access to learning paths that are generated by the results of the simulated assessment, allowing for skill development in trouble spots.
  • Students may reassess on the simulated model after their curriculum work is complete to determine skill improvement and readiness for the actual exam.
  • Students may develop valuable test taking skills through this replicated model of the actual computerized PRAXIS I assessment.

Where can I take the Simulated PPST?

The Simulated PPST is now being offered in CAPS (Center for Academic Planning & Support). You may schedule an appointment to take the assessment by contacting Megan Wilson mwilson@ccsnh.edu

Will it cost me anything to take this assessment or work on the curriculum?

If you are a student at Great Bay, the simulated assessment and corresponding curriculum are FREE. It you are a community member or a student from another institution, the fee for this service is $25.00. The fee includes a retake upon completion of a one or more remediation modules.
