CAPPre-NLN

As a candidate for Great Bay's Nursing Program, you will need to take the RN Pre-Admission exam established by the National League of Nursing. This exam covers three content areas: verbal skills and reading comprehension, mathematics, and science. The exam is three hours long and is a multiple choice format.

For more detailed information about this exam, please visit the National League of Nursing's website: www.nln.org You can register for the exam directly from this website, under Testing Services. The cost of the exam is $70, which is non-refundable/non-transferable.

The exam cannot be retaken for a twelve month period.

Exam Preparation

The following resources are available to help you prepare for the Pre-Admissions NLN exam:

  • NLN Study Guide: McDonald, Mary (Ed). The NLN Review Guide for RN Pre-Entrance Exam. ISBN: 0-7637-1062-8 Study guides are available in the college bookstore.
  • Web-based tutorial: If you are currently enrolled at Great Bay Community College, then you have free access to our web tutorial called PLATO. A specially designed tutorial has been constructed using PLATO curriculum modules to help you prepare in the areas of reading comprehension, math, and science. We recommend that you enhance your verbal skills using alternative resources. If interested in getting logged onto PLATO, see a CAPS staff member in room 202.
  • Internet Resources: We recommend you visit our Internet Study Resources on the CAPS website for assistance with test content, study skills, and test taking strategies
If you are a student with a disability, you may request special testing arrangements for the pre-admission exam through the National League of Nursing. This request is to be made in writing and submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the scheduled testing date. The Coordinator of Disablity Services is available to assist you with the process. You will be required to submit recent documentation in support of your request for testing accommodations.Upon review of these materials, the NLN will determine the nature of the accommodation and will communicate this decision to the Coordinator for Disability Services. Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Admissions Department will be offering information sessions for anyone interested in learning more about Great Bay’s nursing program. These sessions provide critical information about the application process as well as about the nursing program itself. Check back here or with admissions for a list of dates.
