For board members, volunteers and staff of small, community based nonprofit organizations, this course provides an overview of fundraising strategies and planning and the cultivation and stewardship of individual donors. The relationship of mission to fundraising is explored as well as ethics and best practices in the field. Students will:
Develop an understanding of why donors give and the importance of cultivation and stewardship
Identify fundraising strategies appropriate for their organizations
Develop an awareness of best practices and ethical issues around fundraising
Recognize the importance of planning and strategic use of the organization’s mission
Develop a personal fundraising story or “pitch” for their organizations
