ROCHESTER – Ever wonder how jet engines are made? Great Bay Community College (ACM) students are learning how to build lightweight, high-performance composite components for industries including aerospace, automotive, energy, marine, and infrastructure. In celebration of N.H. Manufacturing Week and National Manufacturing Day on October 7th, Great Bay Community College is inviting the public to visit their Rochester campus to see advanced composite manufacturing processes and equipment in action.
Attendees can see firsthand the new high tech, clean world of ACM and watch as things are made out of material like carbon fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass. Students are on hand to share their experience learning to use a 3-D printer, automated coordinate measuring machine, five-axis computer numerical controlled milling machine, 3-D carbon fiber weaving loom, a clean room and more. Participants can visit the College’s Liquid Penetrant inspection booth, complete with black lights
Anyone with a curiosity about the new face of manufacturing, an interest in seeing advanced manufacturing processes and or hearing more about the ACM program available at Great Bay Community College is welcome. GBCC now offers in-state tuition to students in Maine and Massachusetts who enroll in the Advanced Composites Manufacturing Technology (ACM) program. To be eligible for the new in-state tuition pilot plan, students must live in Maine and Massachusetts and be within a 50 miles of the College’s Portsmouth or Rochester campuses. Students must be new to the College.
During Manufacturing Day, participants can choose from three sessions to be held at 9, 10 and 11AM. Each session will include information on manufacturing in the present day, manufacturing equipment demonstrations, a tour of the advanced composites manufacturing (ACM) lab as well as info on career opportunities and information on Great Bay’s ACM and nondestructive testing programs.
