Apprenticeship NH and Great Bay Community College Partner with EnviroVantage on New Registered Apprenticeship Program
Epping, NH – ApprenticeshipNH, a grant-funded initiative run by the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) to help address workforce needs in the state by developing apprenticeship programs with local businesses, announced a new partnership with EnviroVantage. The company, an environmental and specialty services contractor with headquarters in Epping, has developed a new Registered Apprenticeship program for hazardous waste material technicians. EnviroVantage is hiring a cohort of 10 apprentices to begin training in September.
“By partnering with ApprenticeshipNH and Great Bay to create this Registered Apprenticeship program, we can fill our talent pool with work-ready, highly specialized candidates and provide skills/work opportunities for underrepresented groups in the construction trade like women and veterans,” said Daniel Lopez, human resources director at EnviroVantage. “This apprenticeship program goes hand-in-hand with our goal of building solid, trustworthy relationships throughout New Hampshire.”
The hazardous waste material technician Registered Apprenticeship includes 4,000 hours (roughly two years) of on-the-job training and 288 hours of classroom instruction at the EnviroVantage training facility in in Northwood with instruction taught through a partnership with Great Bay Community College (GBCC). EnviroVantage covers the cost of training and instruction. Apprentices are paid an hourly wage for time spent training on the job and in the classroom and will earn at least two pay increases over the duration of the program. Upon completing the program, hazardous waste material technician apprentices can expect to earn $25 per hour.
“The wages and paid education set this apprenticeship apart,” said Emily Zeien, ApprenticeshipNH grant manager. “It’s a great opportunity to do important work while gaining a long list of new skills and nationally recognized credentials and a pathway to a career.”
Hazardous waste material technicians recognize and identify hazardous materials and then respond, contain and control those hazardous materials by using specialized safety equipment in accordance with community and environmental protections standards. Apprentices will have access to the necessary equipment and tools needed for their apprenticeship. Training topics will include Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) training, First Aid training, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) training, chemistry and construction math among other topics.
The ApprenticeshipNH program, housed at the Community College System of NH (CCSNH) and funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, is assisting employers building registered apprenticeship programs in high-demand sectors including advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, biomedical technology, construction/infrastructure, healthcare, information technology, and hospitality.
