The Gateway Gallery

The Gateway Gallery is located in the atrium style entrance of Great Bay Community College. The high ceilings provide the gallery with natural light and a glimpse of nature.  The gallery features the work of local artists in rotating exhibitions every two months. Information about the featured artist and a list of works can be found in the kiosk, along with a guest book.

Latest Installation: “Encountering Ancient Trees.”

The Gateway Gallery at Great Bay Community College is excited to close its first exhibition of 2023 with a reception for Encountering Ancient Trees. This joint exhibition of works by Victoria and Lawrence Elbroch has been wonderfully received by both the college community and that of the greater Portsmouth area, including an upcoming exhibition review in Artscope Magazine.

Encountering Ancient Trees presents a grouping of works rich in minute detail that magnetically arrest viewers’ attention. Serving as mute storytellers and historical markers, through their works the Elbroch’s memorialize stately oak trees as symbols of their own internal value structure, emphasizing “…wisdom, family, connection, shelter, and resilience and as a reminder of the fleeting nature of our lives…”.

The Elbrochs and their grand works, filled with minute details that arrest viewers’ attention, will be celebrated during an opportunity for the public to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments in the gallery on Thursday, March 9 from 5-7 pm. The exhibition will remain on view through Monday, March 13. The Gateway Gallery is located in the main entrance to GBCC’s Portsmouth campus, and any inquiries regarding the exhibition can be made to the gallery curator, Andrew Super, via email at [email protected].
