On October 31, students in the 6-week Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) program celebrated their completion of the coursework at Great Bay’s Portsmouth campus. After finishing the program, graduates will move on to take the state LNA exam for licensure with the NH Board of Nursing.

Great Bay Community College has proudly hosted the Manchester Community College Foundation LNA Training Program on our Portsmouth campus for the past five years. In that time, 23 LNA cohorts have trained here, preparing 130 students who are now working in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities, and home health agencies across the Seacoast.

This partnership continues to strengthen the local healthcare workforce and support students in beginning meaningful careers in patient care.

Meet Arielle Pilot, age 59. After putting her education on hold for decades to raise her family, she is finally pursuing the college degree she has always wanted.

“I got married, had kids,” she shared. “I had to sacrifice. I let my kids go to school first.”

Arielle has spent years working multiple jobs while supporting her family. She is now embracing the opportunity to focus on herself and her goals.

Her son graduated from Great Bay in 2018 before transferring to SNHU to earn his BA. Today, Arielle feels that same pride working toward her own diploma as she felt watching William receive his.

Choosing the right path isn’t always a straight line, and for Brandon Blood, each step brought him closer to the career he dreamed about since third grade.

At 22, Brandon is graduating this month from Great Bay Community College with an associate degree in Criminal Justice and a certificate in Homeland Security. After trying both a four-year college and a large state university, he found the affordability, flexibility, and small class sizes he needed to thrive right here at Great Bay.

His next goal is to begin a career in law enforcement, a calling he has carried since childhood.
