Occupation and Outlook Trend Information

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of software developers is projected to grow 22 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. The main reason for the rapid growth is a large increase in the demand for computer software.

The top four industries in which developers worked in May 2012 were: computer and electronic product manufacturing, software publishers, finance and insurance, and computer systems design and related services.
