On Tuesday, April 11th, Campus Compact for New Hampshire, a statewide consortium of college and university presidents and private sector partners, held an event in Concord to honor the 2023 CCNH Presidents’ Award recipients from colleges and universities from across the Granite State. Among the recipients were students and staff from Great Bay Community College. The awards recognize campus and community members for their outstanding contributions to education and opportunity in New Hampshire. At this week’s event the 2023-2024 Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellows were also recognized. The presidents of Campus Compact for New Hampshire’s member colleges and universities nominate and award each of the candidates.
This year’s awardees for Great Bay Community College included the following:
PRESIDENTS’ LEADERSHIP AWARD
GBCC Business Student, Class of 2023 – Timothy Warroka
This award, according to CCNH, “honors a student or student organization that has made outstanding contributions to community and/or civic engagement efforts on their campus making service an integral part of their college experience in ways that have had a demonstrable impact.”
According to GBCC, “since becoming a student in 2021, Timothy has become involved with the International Club and the Student Government Association, attending the Leadership Development Weekend, and completing the Emerging Leader program. He also serves as the student representative on the President’s Cabinet where he effectively advocates for his peers and is the conduit of change. His leadership, positive attitude, and ability to engage in meaningful conversation with his peers, instructors, as well as members of the College’s Senior Leadership Team, has helped to shape the college culture into one that is collaborative and productive. Through fostering a strong sense of belonging for students, he has helped to impact their persistence and completion of their academic programs. PRESIDENTS’ GOOD STEWARD AWARD
GBCC Director of Student Life – Brittanie Mulkigian
This award “goes to a faculty, administration, or staff member who is dedicated to campus-community engagement. Those selected have contributed professional expertise in service to the wider community and have significantly advanced public service on their campus.”
According to GBCC, “As the Director of Student Life, Brittanie has a passion for uplifting individuals and helping them achieve positive outcomes. Through partnering with the Seacoast community in many areas, including mental health organizations and specifically, the area of food insecurity, she has become a leader in the College’s partnership with Gather, the largest food provider to those experiencing hunger on the Seacoast. Focusing at first on a food pantry, the partnership has grown to include the development of an on-campus café as well as access to a food kitchen that Gather uses to provide food service for both GBCC students, the public and the Gather Community. Today, the Cooking 4 Community
program uses the kitchen to feed over 5,000 individuals a month in the greater community and the Gather Café has fed over 2,700 students at a 50% discount and an additional 360 plus students for free.

“This award honors a nonprofit organization that has partnered with a CCNH member campus to enhance community life in meaningful and measurable ways. Organizations in this role have developed sustained, reciprocal partnerships with a college or university to meet community needs.”
According to GBCC, “Gather has significantly enhanced the quality of the lives of Great Bay Community College students since 2019, by providing supporting Great Bay’s Curbside Food Pickup program during the pandemic, and most recently, opening the Gather Café at Great Bay Community College (GBCC). Since the Gather Café at Great Bay opened to students on August 29, 2022: • 4,596 Meals Have Been Served • 2,767 Meals Have Been Provided to Students for 50% Discount • 363 Complimentary Meals Have Been Provided to 175 Students.”

Newman Civic Fellowship
GBCC Student, Louis Fowler
According to Campus Compact, “the Newman Civic Fellowship is a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers at Campus Compact member institutions. Fellows are nominated based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change—creating a network of connected and engaged student leaders who can support one another in making positive change.” For 2023, the group includes 154 students from 38 states and Mexico.
This year’s recipient nominated by Great Bay is student Louis Fowler. According to Great Bay, “Louis is a founding member and president of Pride Alliance, a club to give LGBTQ+ students a space to foster queer friendship and promote education and representation at the college. He has led the charge on recruitment, and education about LGBTQ+ issues to the wider student body and is forging connections in the larger queer community, including working with Seacoast Outright to participate in Portsmouth Pride.
