Hello Herons!

I am Cheryl Lesser, President of Great Bay Community College and welcome to the new year. Welcome back continuing students and welcome to our new students. On behalf of the faculty and staff, we are here to support your  success!

If you are in search of academic support, please do not hesitate to ask our staff, knock on faculty doors, or visit our Center for Academic Planning and Support on the second floor, staffed with professional and peer tutors ready to offer guidance in a variety of subjects. The Center also offers large a computer lab and plenty of space for quiet study. On the second floor, you will also find our Academic Advisors, ready to assist you in creating academic plans to achieve your educational goals with timely and financial efficiency. Do not forget to also visit our Career Center designed to help guide you towards a pathway and offer one-on-one assistance with resumes and cover letters. Finally, if you are looking for resources in the areas of mental health, housing or food, be sure to stop into the Student Success Center on the first floor and speak with our resource coach.

This year, we are excited to unveil our strategic plan which focuses on three goals; academic excellence, student support, and internal and external community relationships and partnerships. Threaded throughout this plan is a emphasis on inclusion and belonging. Throughout the semester, be on the lookout for a number of insightful and fun workshops and events that I encourage you to participate in. This semester, we are focusing on the LGBTQ+ community.

If you would like to become involved in activities outside the classroom at GBCC, there are clubs and organizations to meet all interests as well as our many athletics programs. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students can also pop into the gym and participate in intermural experiences as well.

In closing, I want to let you know once again that we’re here for you, throughout your educational journey and we welcome your feedback. Be on the lookout for an invitation from me encouraging you to participate in a focus group to share insight on your own GBCC experience. We want to know how we are doing, if we are hitting the mark or, if there are other things that we can do better. On behalf of GBCC, we thank you once again for Choosing Community and for choosing GBCC.

Have a great semester. Go Herons!
